When our puppies turned 56 days old, it
was time for them to leave to their new homes and begin their new lives. One of
our puppies went to live in Germany to a breeder of 37 years! Another puppy
went to live with well experienced owners in Czech Republic. Someone went to
live on a large private land in Lithuania, and someone stayed close by us here
in Latvia. But we’ll tell you more about it later.
We are sorry that we did not have as
many puppies as we had inquiries. Please do not be too sad – Moka will have one
more litter in spring 2011. But please do not delay and contact us immediately
if you want to be considered for Moka’s pup!
What you should know before you bring
your new puppy home
Your puppy doesn’t know yet how to live
independently, and so you must help him adapt to the new environment. Since
birth your puppy was surrounded by his siblings and mom, familiar smell and
sounds, and now all of a sudden he is all alone in a strange place, with
strange noises, and strange smell. Such a radical change can truly scare and
stress out a puppy. What to do?
On the first night at the new home,
place puppy’s bed close to yours so that you could reach out and pet your puppy
if he woke up crying at night. Do not leave your puppy alone! He will naturally
cry and look for his littermates, so you must be there to calm him and to
assure him. Your home is a strange place, he doesn’t know you, and he doesn’t
recognize the surroundings. If at those scary moments you do not leave your
puppy alone, and offer him cuddles and love, he will learn to trust you and
accept you as his new family. That’s the best foundation for your new beautiful
relationship.
Our care about your puppy does not end
when you take him home. We are here to answer your questions any time of day
and night, whenever you need them.
We wish our beautiful puppies and their
new owners a long happy and beautiful life, built on friendship, trust, love,
care and understanding!
All the puppies
have already gone to carefully selected loving homes. We are planning Moka’s
last litter in spring of 2011. If you’re interested in Moka’s puppy, please
contact us at your earliest convenience. We apologize to those who wish to own
Moka’s puppy and whose wish might not become a reality.

#1. Neo Moka,

Birth: Bright
expecience which imprinted in my mind upon the birth of Neo was the fact that
he prepared the path for the arrival of his siblings to this world. We spent 15
hours waiting for the delivery with Moka by our side at all times. I felt that
Moka needed me and that she completely trusted me. Hour after hour, minute
after minute, second after second… Moka was getting uncomfortable, kept
shifting her position, nesting, and trying to get comfortable in her whelping
box. For a moment the silence fell upon us, and all we could hear was Moka’s
heavy panting and quiet music we selected for this occasion. All of a sudden
Moka turned her backside to me, and I saw him – at first still in his grayish
blue sack. The scariest part was that Moka didn’t know yet that she needs to
help this boy break his sack and take the first gulp of the fresh air. We
helped Moka with this job, and only later we realized why she couldn’t help Neo
– 2 minutes later Narnia rolled into this world like a sweet little pea.
Origin of name:
Neo is the main character from the movie “Matrix” who tries to save humanity
from robot domination. When this puppy was born, Latvia got its own Neo – Robin
Hood – wo showed the true face of our government!
Personality:
First of all he is very patient and obedient. Certainly he played around with
his littermates, but he always knew his place in the litter and retained his
composure. When we were teaching puppies to sit, Neo was the first one to sit
and patiently wait for his treat. He never took his eyes away from the treat
and just waited… waited very patiently.
Vilius & Nārnija
#2. Narnia
Moka, 480gr.
Place of
Residence: Lithuania, Viļņa.
Birth: In my
description of Neo’s birth I already mentioned that our little princess Narnia
literally popped out of her mom in a matter of 2 minutes after Neo. From the
moment she arrived to this world, Narnia behaved like a proper lady – quiet,
sweet and very well behaved.
Origin of Name:
In the book Narnia is the place where all animals can talk, magic is an
integral part of everyday life, and Good always wins against Evil.
Personality: As
Narnia’s owner Vilius puts it, she’s an independent woman. There are moments
when she insists on privacy, and there are days when she wants to be in the
center of attention. And like every proper girl should, Narnia expects everyone
to know her value.
#3. Nutah Moka.
She came to this
world with the sounds of Attesa-Sarah “Bright Man” (Live in Wien)
Place of
Residence: Big open hunting fields on the other side of the rainbow…..
Birth: Nutah
was born effortlessly 30 minutes after the “twins.” She was just beautiful with
a long gorgeous ridge. Sadly fate only gave us 2 days with Nutah and then took
her away from us…
Nutah, we will
never forget you!
Origin of Name:
In Indian Apache language it means “the one with the most expressive, beautiful
eyes.”
Noass & Ghris
#4. Noass Moka, 550 gr.
Place of
Residence: Czech Republic.
Birth: From the
very first second this boy showed us how agile and energetic he is. When he was
born, he was still in his sac. His birth made me laugh out loud because the
skin on his head looked like a hat, pulled over his ears, and he was using all
his strength to get himself out without any patience to wait!
Origin of Name:
Wonderful story of Noass can be read in the Bible about how he saves his family
and all the species on this planet.
Personality:
Hyperactive, full of love, with his heart open to the world, trusting,
unbelievably fast and obedient. It was unbelievable to see that on the very
first day of his visit, Chris was teaching Noah various commands, and tiny Noah
was sitting, lying down, and came when called!!! We are certain that Chris and
Noass will be at the top of their obedience class!
Māris & Neptūns
#5. Neptune, 650gr.
Place of
Residence: Ozolnieki, Latvia.
Birth:
Everything happened in a split second. We thought that Moka would take a break
since 4 puppies had already been born in the past 3 hours. We didn’t even
finish making our coffee and Neptune let us know he was coming!
Origin of Name:
Neptune is Roman God of Sea. He’s the ruler of the oceans, and also the
protector of horses. Also, Neptune is s the eighth and farthest planet from the
Sun in our Solar System. It’s so amazing, surrounded by blue clouds of gas, and
that’s why astronauts called it the same name as God of Sea.
Personality:
This little guy has the most level, peaceful, and balanced personality. He
loves balls, especially if they’re colorful and if he can collect them all in
one place (organized boy!). And as his name dictates, this little guy took a
swim on his first walk on the coast, and then kept going back for another dip,
and another, and another. I think that this sport will improve his health
condition (head tremors), and it will slowly go away. Then Neptune will be able
to outdo his competition in conformation ring.
Alex, or Neptune,

Alex, my boy,
let your life be wonderful! We carefully selected the very best family for you.
You had an opportunity to leave the country, even if we wanted you to stay
close by. Many people wanted to welcome you to their family, but we trusted
only Maris, Inga and their children. They are the best which you deserve!
Having said that, I want to ask you to be a good friend and a wonderful guard
to the children, be the best companion of this outgoing and athletic family,
and watch over them 24/7! I hope you heal soon and grow up to be a wonderful
dog and a family member!
#6. Namei, 580 gr.
Namejs
Place of
Residence: Valmiera, Latvia.
Birth: Birth of
Namei, in contrast with his personality, was very peaceful and slow, and Moka
was able to take care of it all by herself. As soon as his mom was done with
her initial cleaning, Namei headed for the teats, and let everyone know that
two of them belonged to him! That rule remained for the days to come – he
didn’t even consider sharing them with anyone else. And if anyone tried to take
one his Namei’s teats, he made sure to push them off immediately.
Origin of Name:
Namei was the eldest leader of Tervetes, and later became tzar of Zemgale. He
fought for freedom of the people. He ruled over the entire Zemgale in the
exception of Mezhotne, which was occupied by Germans.
Personality:
never tiring, active, outgoing, and intelligent! I could continue the list of
qualities with no end, but I do not want to list more qualities in him than his
siblings. They all have wonderful personalities, and will grow up to have their
individual characters.
Namei

Njambi
#7. Njambi, 580 gr.
Place of
Residence: Riga, Latvia.
Birth: At 10pm,
when all the puppies were peacefully snoozing on mommy’s belly, we called our
vet to check all the pups (big thanks to our beloved vet Cynthia). Moka
received a cleansing shot to make sure that there are no puppies left in
mommy’s belly. Two hours later the last baby finally got ready to come check
out our world! The puppy came without the sack and with umbilical cord
detached. No movement… Moka wasn’t moving either. Lots of blood. We carefully
tied off the remainder of the umbilical cord, and understood we have to fight
for this baby’s life! I kept massaging to the point where the whole body must
have started to hurt for this puppy… those seconds seemed to stretch for
eternity… and I understood that this puppy’s fate is in my hands and I have to
keep the faith. I kept massaging him, and I kept talking to him. I promised him
everything – best owners in the world, biggest love, if only he starts
breathing! He must have believed me, because he finally broke the silence and
took a deep breath!
And here he is!
Origin of Name:
from Nubian mythology - Supreme Creator God. He placed the primordial
Omumborombonga tree upon the Earth, from which Mukuru, the first human emerged.
He rules all of the forces of nature.
Personality:
independent, calm and obedient. His personality is identical to that of
Narnia’s: he comes when he pleases and goes when he’s willing. Final decision
is always his.
Owner’s
comments: At the moment when he was born I felt the connection. First of all I
didn’t promise to be the perfect owner cause I didn’t plan on taking this pup.
But the days went by and I understood that I cannot let this boy go! A part of
me would be missing. I spent a lot of time thinking whether I can commit to
owning a pup and provide him with everything he would need. I thought a little
more, and finally reached a conclusion that if he is mine, I will have a reason
to try harder, to do more, and create a wonderful life for him! After a week
spent with Njambi I felt a surge of maternal instinct - I wanted to protect
him, care for him, and spend all my free time with him. Sleepless night,
puddles… but it’s worth all the troubles!

The time is nearing
As we wait for the puppies, I would like
to share some stories about rhodesian ridgebacks we know and love in Latvia and
abroad...
The journey of a dog to human's life and heart cannot be precisely retold, but it is thought that all of the dogs came from the same ancestors, and later each breed attained its own qualities, personality and temperament. Character of a dog is not only defined by heredity, but also by training, life experiences and individual qualities. (Lorenco)
Every dog has a very special and unique
personality.
One has to treat them in a way that would be pleasant to both you and the dog. ( Ieva)
Since the ancient times dogs have been true partners for humans. It is with their faithfulness and unconditional love that they have earned their rightful place as the full members of the family. That is exactly what we value our Rhodesian Ridgebacks for.
RRs
are intelligent, but also can be stubborn. A ridgeback will first think and
only then act on it unlike some other breeds. A ridgeback analyzes in a
humanlike manner. Ridgebacks love children, and they get along well with other
pets if they grew up together and are used to each other.
Ridgebacks
are exceptionally smart, and they clearly distinguish between their family
members and strangers. Ridgebacks are aloof around strangers, and are very
careful in new environment. That should never be confused with aggressiveness
as a ridgeback should never show fear or anger. Puppies should be well
socialized from the early days, and they should be introduced to the widest
variety of shapes, forms, noises, people, and animals possible. That kind of
training will ensure that a puppy will grow up to have a wonderful temperament
and will become a valuable member of the community. There is no need to train
ridgebacks to guard as that skill is innate to the breed.
Regardless
of the breed, it is always better to start training your pup sooner than later
as the younger they are, the more open-minded they are to any type of training.
Socializing puppies with other puppies and adult dogs from the young days is
imperative because it ensures that puppies learn to communicate with other
members of their canine family.
Sometimes new owners
delay social training and do not train a dog until he/she is one year old. By
then the dog’s behavioral patterns have already formed, and it is no longer
training, but a corrective-training. It is by far a much harder type of
training, it demands much more time and oftentimes yields less results than
training a young susceptive pup with an open mind. Puppies, just like children,
are born with different temperaments and personalities. It is important to
recognize it from the wee days and to train a puppy accordingly. It is an
owner’s responsibility and the most important task to set boundaries for their
pup from the very first day when the puppy arrives at his/her new homes. If a
puppy grows up knowing that he has no boundaries and is allowed to do anything
they please, training such a pup will be extremely hard. Giving a ridgeback no
boundaries is telling him that he is the boss. That is a very dangerous road to
an uncontrollable dog.
Ridgebacks require regular exercise and plenty of play time in order for them to feel content. A quick walk on a leash, which might be satisfactory for other breeds, is not enough for a ridgeback.
Unfortunately,
everyone has a different understanding of the conditions that they have to
offer their dog. Some people buy dogs just because they are fashionable. Others
buy a puppy because their children asked for one, and they do not realize how
quickly that puppy will grow up into a big dog and will demand time, means, and
dedication. Buying a puppy is a huge responsibility. It should never be taken
lightly.
A dog
becomes a dog that you help him become, thinks Dace (an owner of Otello – our
puppy from Moka’s first litter). Grant is one truly intelligent and a wonderful
family member, who happily participates in our family conversations. However,
when asked by Dace, he steps aside and waits quietly.
Valentina
(the owner of our baby Oppilaa Moka): baby Moka is a wonderful member of our
family, a great hunting companion for my husband, best buddy for my son, and a
dearest friend for me. We trust Moka with everything! Moka is simply a dream
come trye.
Anda
considers Opal to be her trustful friend. Jasper is an active and a loving
company dog. At home he has his own “lion” – Karo (a big cuddly Leonberger).
Jasper and Karo share their honorary duties of guarding their house and their
family.
Elina (maintenance associate of children
camps): Moka is simply the sweetest girl, always friendly, happy, and active.
Mara
(a friend of our family, who met Moka 3-4 times): Moka is gorgeous and
incredibly intelligent. She loves the attention and loves the cuddles, but she
understands that I have to work, so Moka makes sure not to be too annoying with
her love and tenderness. She is an ideal dog for a family.
Moka’s
brother Dorik lives with his owner Iana in Estonia. Dorik has fathered many
puppies. His pretty, healthy and well loved babies can be seen in the
Netherlands, Germany, Finland and Norway.
Iana
about Dortik: Our family adores him. Everyone dreams of having such an amazing
dog. Intelligent, attentive, thankful, faithful and with a fantastic
temperament. He loves children. We often head to Tallin’s downtown, where we
meet and play with 10 friends of ours!
Natalia
(who owns Moka’s sister Naomi) says about her dog: Our Naomi is intelligent,
well behaved, and a social dog. She loves to take long walks on the sea coast
with her already grown up kids and Zuma (Jack Russel). Naomi, just like her
puppies, loves children and gets along well with other pets in our home.

Since the day I brought home Neile, my
life evolves around ridgebacks. They have become the biggest part of my life.
ISIS for me has been and will always be
the most amazing dog I’ve ever owned! Our meeting was unplanned but truly meant
to be! ISIS has taught me what a real ridgeback is like – faithful,
intelligent, athletic, loving to her family and attentive while working. ISIS
has done exceptionally well in conformation, performance and is a canine good
citizen!
ISIS loves children – my hyperactive daughter was not even 6 y.o. when ISIS
entered our home. It was love at first sight. Isis never ran out of tenderness
and love for GABBY – together they get up and together they go to sleep. They
share everything right to the very last morsel of a treat!
Isis gets along with other dogs very well, and shares her home with another
ridgeback – DODO. Her motherly instinct is amazing, and she loves taking care
of us all. We are very lucky to have imported this stunning girl from so far
away! And it’s delightful to see how wonderful ISIS’ relatives are!

we simply call her Chio. Out Chio is a calm and smart girl. She can be
stubborn, but then again, what ridgeback without their own opinion? When we
brought her home, she immediately immersed herself in family matters and liked
to stay close to us at all times, following us everythere one step behind. To
this day she enjoys keeping tab on all of us, and enjoys herding her family
members in order to make sure that no one gets lost. Everywhere she goes, she

sweet red couple – this is how Natasha calls her troublemakers and sweethearts.
Roger is owned by the most amazing owner! Natasha has put hours upon hours in training
Roger, and to this date he is the only ridgeback in Latvia, who has achieved
the most amazing results in agility and not only! Roger is one handsome and a
friendly guy, who gets along with everyone. He is very lucky to live in such an
active family for that sport is what he enjoys so much!
Natalia
owns two imported ridgebacks – Zhumba (Russia&Finland) and Palik
(Italy&France). Natalia says: they are the best family friends, gentle,
happy, and friendly. I think they have a prolonged childhood syndrome, cause
they are very playful and even child-like joyful. They love their cats and

We are thankful to Marina (breeder of
Moka) and Sindy (SAR&SAR) for our beloved Moka!
If to
look at our conformation rings of today, Rhodesian Ridgebacks are well noticed
and valued by many. It is also accurate to say that most of the ridgebacks
showing in our region are those bred in Russian or from Russian bloodlines.
Currently Moka is the top winning ridgeback in Latvia. In October 2009 Moka was recognized as the best and the prettiest RR in Latvia (out of 30 strong competitors) by Eva Greg (the president of KUSA, creator of the RR standard). A bitch from the second breeding of Moka’s dam Sindy – Ama Amarula – has also been recognized by Eva Greg as an excellent specimen of the breed. It is offspring of Sindy who are currently enjoying great success and are raising the bar in conformation ring in Latvia and even abroad.

If
somebody told you that Rhodesian Ridgebacks are aggressive (i.e. the standard
calls for it) think again before you believe them. Maybe it is their dogs that
are aggressive, and probably the season lies somewhere else but the standard.

Cubo. The pedigree and the gene combination for this litter is
extraordinary, but even more important, we believe that the sire and the
dam compliment each other perfeclty with their soundness, excellent
movement, typey look, superb temperament, and impeccable health.
We expect the parents to pass all their wonderful qualities to the puppies, and
we hope to soon have a full home of joyful, healthy, and robust babies. Fingers
